LABORATORY TECHNICIAN/INSTRUCTOR

 The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), the only specialized maritime university in the English-speaking Caribbean is inviting applications for Laboratory Technician/Instructor (Level 4) position.

 SUMMARY

The Instructor provides academic support to the Faculty of Marine and Nautical Studies in the areas of discipline and cadet training. Participates in developing the technology and resources framework to facilitate professional advancement of cadets. Serve as a resource person and provides advice on the development of equipment, material and curricula and coordinates their implementation. The Instructor reports to the Dean.

 Key Outputs:

– Laboratory/workshop and its equipment and to prevent illegal or dangerous activities that could compromise the University efficiently managed.

-Laboratory/workshop/ stock room database maintained

-Databases updated and/or enhanced as needed

-Activities undertaken scheduled and prioritised in keeping with targets

Key Responsibility Areas:

-Communicates all occupational, safety and health hazards to the HOD or to other senior faculty members

-Consults with the HOD, and senior faculty to develop appropriate technical or chemical solutions, as necessary.

-Provides technical support to students, departments/faculties, as required

-Participates in the implementation of technological/ mechanical/ chemical (etc) preparation for projects/ workshops/ laboratories.

-Administers and maintains the Faculty’s laboratory equipment, manuals, chemicals and materials.

-Prepares laboratory environment and tutorial sessions in accordance with the Dean or other senior Faculty’s directions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

-Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering or Marine Transportation.

-At least two (2) years’ working experience in a similar position

-Shows outstanding discipline

-Custodian for laboratory/workshop equipment and supplies

-Provides technical support to lecturers, students and instructors as required.

-Keeps abreast of emerging trends and technologies in his/her field;

-maintains affiliation with relevant professional bodies and to promote the above among staff at all levels.

-Capable of communicating and demonstrating all skills required for the position.
