Students are eligible for graduation and certification once they meet the below requirements:

• Successful completion of all foundation courses or conditional requirements.

• Successful completion of all academic courses including the industrial awareness component.

• Fulfillment of all financial obligation to the University.

• Fulfillment of all requirements to the University Library.

You will not be able to graduate and attend a ceremony in 2023 if your award has not been approved by 30 September 2023 or if you are in debt to the University.

The Graduation Eligibility portal is now open for online registration. Eligible candidates may apply by logging into the Student Registration System (SRS) at http://srs.cmu.edu.jm and select the Graduation Eligibility button. Students must only apply once. Students graduating in absentia (i.e., not walking in the ceremony) are also required to complete online registration for certification purposes. The deadline for all applications is September 30, 2023.

Each application will be processed by the Faculty, Library, Treasury, and the Registry. Students may monitor the status of their application from the SRS. If you are unable to participate in this year’s graduation ceremony, arrangements can be made with the Office of the University Registrar to allow for your inclusion in next year’s ceremony.

Graduation rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, starting at 12 p.m. at the National Indoors Sports Centre. All graduands who will be participating in the ceremony are required to be in attendance. Parking will be at your own risk and available at JA$200/per person.

The 2023 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the National Indoors Sports Centre starting at 11:00 a.m. Patrons must be seated by 10:20 a.m. and graduands are required to be at the venue by 8:00 a.m. for robing, orientation, and procession arrangements.

These fees are to be paid directly to the university. Please note that the amounts stated do not include photographic services by Bryan’s Studios, the selected photographer for the event. Graduands will be required to pay a separate fee to them of $5,000.00.

Payments to the University can be made using any of the following options:

      • Paymaster branches island-wide

      • National Commercial Bank branches island-wide via the online portal. No payment will be accepted through the KIOSKs or NCB ATMs.

Proof of payment must be submitted to the Treasury for payments made outside of the University.

Everybody graduating must be adorned in full academic robes. Gowns are also required for the graduation photoshoot. For students who are not interested in walking in the graduation ceremony, gown will be issued on the allotted days of the photoshoot, November 6-10, 2023. The cost of gown rental is included in the graduation fee. Gowns used for the photoshoot must be returned on the same day of use.

Please note that the wearing of the graduation cap will be mandatory for the graduation photoshoot and the graduation ceremony. Hairstyles must be appropriate for the fitting of the cap. All gowns must be returned to the university on or before November 24, 2023 at 3 p.m. For gowns not returned, the value of replacement will be added to your account.

Bryan’s Studios are our official photographer for the event. The photographer is responsible for the photoshoot and will also attend the graduation ceremony to take photographs of each graduand on stage being awarded for inclusion in the package photographs. No other photographer is allowed to approach the graduation stage.

The graduation photoshoot will be held at the Caribbean Maritime University’s Palisadoes Campus on November 6-10, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost of the photoshoot is JA$5,000.00, paid directly to Bryan’s Studios on the day via cash, debit, or credit card.

It is expected that all graduands must be smartly dressed for the photoshoot as well as the graduation ceremony, thus the University Dress Code regulations are to be observed by all, particularly as it relates to hair and earring requirements. (e.g., for men – dress shirt and tie and for females – collarless apparel, with neck ornament and appropriate dress shoes. There should be no jeans or sportswear for those walking in the graduation ceremony). Cadets should be adorned in official white regalia.

Each graduand will be issued a total of four (4) guest invitations. Due to seating capacity and the number of attending graduands, there is always a limit on the number of guests tickets that can be allocated for the ceremony. We are seeking to support requests for extra tickets where space allows, but demand for tickets is high.

Parking will be provided at the venue to graduates and their guests at a cost of $200.00 per vehicle. Continue to monitor this webpage as more information is published on parking entry points and instructions.

Unfortunately, we do not have space to hold bags on the day, and storage space within the venue itself is limited and not secured. We urge each graduand to travel as light as possible, and where necessary to leave items with relatives or in vehicles on the day.

The date of your award is when the University’s Academic Board meets and agrees that you have met the required criteria for the award of your degree. November 2023 graduands will need to have their degree awarded at an Academic Board by 31 October 2023 for undergraduates and postgraduates. If your degree is awarded after the applicable date, you will not be able to graduate (walk in the ceremony) in November 2023 and will be put forward to the next congregation, in November 2024.

All financial obligations must be met by 30 October 2023 to be eligible to graduate in November 2023.

The award is when the Academic Board confirms that you have met the criteria to be awarded your degree and the date of this meeting is the date which will appear on your certificate.

This will be different to your ‘graduation’ date which relates to the ceremonial aspect where your degree is conferred at a degree ceremony.
